To the Rapids!
A downloadable whitewater adventure for Windows and Linux
Row down the river, by using only 2 buttons! The game is made during (and for) SoloDevJam-4.
This is a relaxing kayak adventure. You will start on a calm part of the river, with weak currents and few rocks. But shall you go further, the faster and more challenging the river will come!
UPDATE: the official end of the game is "The Rock". The luck is not on my side - several objects are misplaced this way, so they all prevent you from escaping "The Rock". I will obviously fix it, but the jam version can be called "To the Rock!" (It's both sad and funny 🥺)
For this game, I used only free assets. In general, it's only 3d meshes+textures and sounds. All other things (mechanics, animation, menu and controls) I did myself during the jam. The full asset list can be found below.
Here is a map:
And this is me, doing some real kayaking!
Actually, this photo is taken several days before my near-death (near drown) experience... So this game serves as a kind of therapy for me!
That is why I tried to polish physics and make as accurate a kayaking experience, as it was possible in these 3 days. And yes, the boat is supposed to turn around on just one row :D
Here is the list of assets:
Kayak and paddle 3d models - "Boats - PolyPack" by Alstra Infinite
Nature (Trees, rocks, waterfalls) and water shader - "BOKI - Low Poly Nature" by Boki
A set of simple UI buttons - "Simple Button Set 01" by That Witch Design
Sounds by worthahep88 and EpicWizard from freesound.org
Music - "The Fellowship" from weloveindies.com
I've also tested some other assets (like more low-poly rocks), but I think I haven't used them in the final version.
And here is my dev vlog that I recorded during the whole jam!

I hope you have a great PC! If so, feel free to download the normal versions. If not, that's sad :(... But I managed to compile some versions for you also! The medium has disabled particles (most of them) and lowered terrain settings. The ultralow is like the lightest version I could get in a time, so there are no trees and no beautiful effects (that I spent some time on), but at least it should run smoother! I've tested an ultralow version on my 12-year-old laptop (a netbook with Ubuntu) - works smoothly! But If you will play it note, that I've spent a day on graphics, that you will not see :'(
Instructions for Linux - should be standard! Remember to give .x86_64 file the right to execute (e.g. with chmod +x)
P.S. I didn't notice that a debugger for Unity was also added to the files. Will try to get rid of it for future jams! Obv was compiling in a rush -_-
